Senior Grain Merchandiser - Rail

Our client is looking for a senior rail trader to take ownership of rail execution and grain merchandising across a large grain asset footprint. The role is focused on moving volume through shuttle loaders, managing basis, spreads, and freight, and working closely with origination to keep assets utilized and profitable. This position is designed for someone who already understands rail merchandising and can operate with urgency, discipline, and accountability in a business that is growing.

Responsibilities

• Own rail merchandising strategy across multiple shuttle and unit train assets
• Execute and manage 65–80+ trains annually, with expectations to scale volume over time
• Actively manage basis, spreads, freight, and timing to drive incremental margin
• Work closely with a multi-person origination team in a dotted-line structure to align bushels with rail demand
• Coordinate with operations and logistics to keep assets moving and fully utilized
• Identify and capture margin opportunities beyond traditional carry and storage economics
• Help modernize grain merchandising strategy and execution across the organization

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business, Finance, or a related field preferred
• 5+ years of progressive experience in grain merchandising or commodity trading
• Demonstrated experience merchandising grain with a heavy rail and shuttle loader focus
• Deep understanding of basis, spreads, freight, and hedge management
• Proven ability to operate independently and make real-time trading decisions
• Track record of accountability for volume, execution, and margin outcomes
