Our client is seeking a Commercial Manager to help lead grain origination, merchandising, sales, pricing, and risk management for a long-established Central Texas agricultural business.
This individual will work closely with the General Manager and CEO to strengthen farmer, supplier, and customer relationships, manage commodity positions, develop new business, and improve overall commercial performance.
Responsibilities
- Originate corn, wheat, sorghum, feed ingredients, and other agricultural products
- Build and maintain relationships with farmers, suppliers, feed mills, livestock operations, and other end users
- Establish competitive bids and purchasing strategies based on market conditions, inventory, freight, and sales commitments
- Manage physical commodity positions and execute purchases, sales, basis transactions, and related futures hedges
- Monitor basis, futures, spreads, freight, inventory, contracts, and commercial exposure
- Develop pricing strategies and annual commercial plans across purchases, sales, inventory, and product mix
- Coordinate with operations, dispatch, and drivers to align commercial activity with storage and transportation capacity
- Identify opportunities to improve freight efficiency, backhauls, contract execution, inventory management, and customer delivery
Qualifications
- 5+ years of grain merchandising, origination, or related commercial experience
- Working knowledge of basis trading, futures markets, hedging, and risk management
- Proven ability to develop and grow farmer, supplier, and customer relationships
- Understanding of agricultural logistics, freight, storage, and contract execution, ideally in Texas
- Strong commercial judgment and decision-making ability in changing markets
- Strong communication skills across producers, customers, operations, drivers, and company leadership
- Comfortable working in a small-business environment with broad commercial responsibilities
